Frank Lanzendörfer

Frank Lanzendörfer (born December 30, 1962 in Dresden - Oberpoyritz , † August 1988 in Marienwerder ), known under the pseudonym flanzendörfer , was a German artist. He dealt with painting and graphics, but also with poetics, Super 8 films and performance.

biography

Flanzendörfer graduated from high school , after which he did his army service in the NVA . In 1983/84 he lived in Dresden, from 1984 in Berlin .

Artistic creation

From 1983 he lived as a freelance artist on the underground scene in the GDR . He was one of the co-founders of the self-published unofficial magazine "schaden", which offered artists in Prenzlauer Berg the possibility of publication. In addition to his participation in the artist books "Losich" (1985), "Achkrach Kuckbuck" (1986) and "Flugschutt" (1986), contributions from flanzendörfer can be found in the magazines " Bizarre Cities " (Berlin), "Liane" (Berlin), "UND" (Dresden), "USW" (Dresden) and "Use" (Berlin) as well as in the literary almanac "Temperaments". In addition, some of his poems appeared in the “Yearbook of Poetry 1986” published by Luchterhand Verlag and in the anthologies “The other language. New GDR literature of the 80s ”and“ A Molotov cocktail on the edge of a bed strange ”. In 1987 Flanzendörfer produced the film "Eisenschnäbelige Krähe" with the collaboration of Mita Schamal . In 1992 Peter Böthig and Klaus Michael published “Impossible Es Leben: Textszeichenbilder” on the basis of the artist book “Impossible Es Leben”, which Flanzendörfer produced in 1984. He has always been portrayed as an extreme artist, especially in terms of his body art. He “staged” his death by throwing himself from a fire tower in front of a few friends .
