The Dark is an Austrian zombie film by Justin P. Lange and Klemens Hufnagl from 2018 with Nadia Alexander, Toby Nichols and Karl Markovics in the leading roles. It premiered on April 21, 2018 at the Tribeca Film Festival . The film was invited to the Vienna / slash film festival of fantastic films 2018 in the competition. On the run from the authorities, Josef finds a supposedly empty wooden house in Devil's Den , where several people have already disappeared without a trace. There, the carnivorous zombie girl Mina has been up to mischief for decades. Intruders are eaten up by her, and she has no mercy on Josef either.

In the trunk of Josef's car she discovers Alex, a boy whose eyes have been blinded and who is therefore blind. She decides to let Alex live, and a friendship develops between Alex and Mina. Both have experienced terrible things in the past and are mutual comforting.

Filming took place in Canada from October 31 to December 2, 2016 . The location was Parry Sound in the district of the same name in the province of Ontario . The film was produced by the Austrian Dor Film .

The production was supported by the Northern Ontario Heritage Fund, Tax Credit Canada, the Creative Europe Program - MEDIA of the European Union, and Austrian Broadcasting was involved . James Lazarenko and Hannes Plattmeier were responsible for the tone and sound design, Hannah Puley for the costume design and Daniella Sahota for the production design.
