Kurt Langbein

from Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia

Kurt Langbein (born October 29, 1953 in Budapest ) is an Austrian filmmaker, science journalist and film producer in Vienna.

Life

Kurt Langbein was born in 1953 as the son of Aloisia and Hermann Langbein , the historian and Austrian resistance fighter against National Socialism . He grew up in Vienna .

After studying sociology in Vienna from 1973 to 1977, he began his journalistic career in 1978 in Claus Gatterer's critical TV magazine "teleobjektiv". Films about abuses in psychiatry , in children's homes and prisons , reports on disadvantaged minorities and documentation on experiments with drugs that have not yet been approved in Austrian clinics caused a sensation and discussion. Gatterer's magazine was controversial and was to be discontinued soon after Gerd Bacher's re-election as ORF general manager in 1978. But numerous protests by viewers and the media ensured the continuation until 1983. After the discontinuation of the TV magazine and the death of Claus Gatterer in 1984, Langbein worked in "Inlandsreport", designed TV documentaries and in 1986 developed the TV format "concerns" he directed until 1989. In 1989 Langbein switched to the news magazine “ profil ” and was in charge of the “Inland” department (science and society).

In 1992 Langbein started his own business and together with Christian Skalnik founded the multimedia agency Langbein & Partner Media, which he has been managing alone since Skalnik left. In 2001 Langbein founded the health portal "surfMED" together with the Internet service provider Netway, which he continues to run independently as the publisher after Netway has been sold to UTA. In 2009 "careon", a German manufacturer of electronic patient files, took over the majority of surfMED.

Kurt Langbein is married to Brigitte Ortner and has a son, the actor Daniel Langbein .
