Bitter Pills is a guidebook by the authors Kurt Langbein , Hans-Peter Martin and Hans Weiss .

The book evaluates over 15,000 prescription and over-the-counter medicines , natural remedies, and homeopathics . It was first published in 1983 (with the co-authorship of Peter Sichrovsky ) and is published by Kiepenheuer & Witsch . It was written with the scientific advice of doctors and pharmacologists.

The first issue was number 1 on the Spiegel bestseller list for 49 weeks in 1983 and 1984 .
