The Red List is a pharmaceutical directory for Germany. It contains brief information on medicinal products for human use marketed in Germany (including EU approvals ) and certain medical products, which are created from specialist , usage and product information. It is aimed at medical-pharmaceutical specialist groups ( doctors , pharmacists , clinics , etc.) with the purpose of informing them about products on the market. The Red List is made available to specialist groups in printed form and online free of charge, but is also available from mail order bookstores. The red list is also integrated into various databases through the issuing of data licenses.

It is updated annually as a book edition and every six months in the form of electronic publications (since 1990). The Red List is the drug directory with the highest circulation in Germany (print run 2014: 275,000 copies). The first of the electronic editions published twice a year has the same content as the book edition. The electronic publications have compared to the print version u. a. advanced search functions. The AMInfo DVD - ROTE LISTE / Fachinfo appears four times a year.

The entry in the red list is chargeable for the manufacturer of the registered drug and depends on the scope of the entry. For this reason, some manufacturers have withdrawn their entries, so that the Red List currently (2012) no longer fully represents the pharmaceutical market in Germany.

The publication of preparations in the Red List is the responsibility of the company and is not tied to membership of a pharmaceutical association. The 2013 book edition of the drug directory includes around 22,674 drugs. These are summarized in 6,080 product entries with 7,448 dosage forms and 23,848 price information from 447 pharmaceutical companies and from distributors / manufacturers of certain medical products.

history

The model for the Red List was "Riedel's Mentor" from 1926 from the drug wholesaler JD Riedel AG in Berlin. On 1133 pages, it comprised around 18,000 preparations commonly used in pharmacy. The Red List first appeared in 1933 and was published by the respective association of the pharmaceutical industry . The intervals between each new edition were different. The preparatory work for the 14th edition, published in 1974, took three years, the directory was fundamentally redesigned, divided into 95 classes and contained around 8,200 preparations from over 800 manufacturers. 1400 medicinal products were of herbal origin, 290 were homeopathic . The Rote Liste Service GmbH , a subsidiary of the BPI and the Association of Research-Based Pharmaceutical Manufacturers (vfa), has been the publisher since 2006 .
