The Federal Association of the Pharmaceutical Industry eV ( BPI ) represents the interests of around 260 pharmaceutical and biotech companies in Germany with around 70,000 employees: start-ups, medium- sized companies and multinational companies. The BPI member companies are active in various areas: The products come from the areas of chemically defined active ingredients, biotechnological medicines , herbal medicines , homeopathic medicines and anthroposophic medicines . Pharmaceutical service providers are also included in the BPI.

history

The BPI was founded in 1951 and is u. a. in various scientific bodies, e.g. B. represented the expert committees for prescription , pharmacy and narcotics as well as the commission for drugs for children and adolescents (KAKJ) at the Federal Institute for drugs and medical devices and the pharmacopoeia commissions. In addition, the BPI is a member of the board of trustees of the Institute for Quality and Efficiency in Health Care (IQWiG) as well as in the Federal Association of German Industries (BDI) and the Association of the Chemical Industry (VCI).

The focal points of the association are policy advice and public relations work at national level and in the European Union (EU). The focus here is on questions of drug research and development , drug approval , drug production, drug safety and drug marketing.

In 2007, the BPI initiated the establishment of the Arbitration Board for Medicinal Products and Cooperation in Healthcare eV (AKG) as an institution for self-regulation in the pharmaceutical industry.

The BPI is based in Berlin and has an office in Brussels .

Works

The drug directory with the highest circulation in Germany , the Red List , has been reissued annually since 1933 by the BPI and its predecessor organizations, since 1995 in cooperation with the Association of Research-Based Drug Manufacturers through their joint subsidiary Rote Liste Service GmbH . It contains at least the preparations reported by the editorial deadline and is made available to specialist groups free of charge, including online ( only with access authorization due to the advertising restrictions of the Therapeutic Products Act ).
