Prelate Leopold Hungarian Journalist Prize

The Prälat-Leopold-Ungar-Journalist-Prize is one of the most highly endowed Austrian journalist prizes . The award is named after the longstanding President of Caritas , Prelate Leopold Ungar .

Since 2004, the Prelate Leopold Ungar Media Prize has been awarded every year for journalistic achievements by Caritas of the Archdiocese of Vienna and the Raiffeisenlandesbank Niederösterreich-Wien . In 2010 the prize was endowed with 20,000 euros. This award recognizes outstanding journalistic achievements that promote tolerance and understanding in dealing with marginalized social groups and deal with socio-political issues such as poverty, homelessness, migration, flight, old age, illness or discrimination. The award is given to journalists who courageously oppose prejudice in and with their work and who sensitively seek creative approaches in reporting in the field of tension between emotion and information.

The award winners are determined by an independent jury of five. The chairman is determined by the jury itself and has full voting rights.
