Anna Thalhammer

Anna Thalhammer (born August 9, 1985 in Ried im Innkreis ) is an Austrian journalist . She works in the domestic affairs section of the daily newspaper Die Presse .

Live and act

Anna Thalhammer studied German at the University of Salzburg from 2003 to 2005 and then from 2005 to 2010 German and Jewish Studies at the University of Vienna . In 2010 she received her diploma thesis on literature and politics in the GDR in the struggle for power. Volker Braun's Hinze Kunze novel at the Institute for German Studies at the University of Vienna with Michael Rohrwasser awarded the academic degree Magistra philosophiae .

During her studies, she worked as a copywriter and in marketing for Science Communications from 2005 to 2007 . In February 2007 Thalhammer started working as a freelance journalist for the daily newspaper Kurier . Starting in September 2010, she worked for two years as head of duty at the magazine biber . From May 2012 she worked for the daily newspaper Heute in the “Vienna Chronicle”. She switched to the press in 2015 and has been a member of the domestic policy editorial team there since 2017 .

In 2017, Anna Thalhammer was significantly involved in the revelations of dirty campaigning methods relating to SPÖ adviser Tal Silberstein in the 2017 National Council election in Austria ( Silberstein affair ). After the election and before the individual members of the National Council were sworn in, she exposed allegations of sexual harassment of women, which incriminated former National Council member Peter Pilz . In the election with the Peter Pilz list of the same name , he reached 4.41 percent, but initially did not accept his mandate due to this and other allegations against him.

In November 2019, it became known that as part of the BVT affair on May 10, 2019, the Federal Office for the Prevention and Fight against Corruption tried to have Thalhammer's mobile phone confiscated in order to identify its informants. The device of NEOS MP Stephanie Krisper should also be confiscated. The public prosecutor's office in Vienna rejected these requests at the beginning of July.
