Elternschule is a documentary film released in Germany on October 11, 2018 . The directors were Jörg Adolph and Ralf Bücheler .

The film documents how children and parents are treated and cared for in the Gelsenkirchen Children's and Youth Clinic in the Department of Pediatric Psychosomatics. In the film, the children, but also the parents, complete behavior training. The department is headed by the psychologist Dietmar Langer.

Criticism and reactions

The film was received very controversially. While the film was viewed rather positively in the media - for example, the BR said the film shows “how holistic behavioral training with psychotherapy and educational coaching can work” - it also received heavy criticism in some cases; For example, the pediatrician Herbert Renz-Polster spoke of educational violence. The German Society for Child and Adolescent Psychiatry, Psychosomatics and Psychotherapy (DGKJP) and the German Child Protection Association also joined the criticism .

After the film was released, criminal charges were filed against the film, but these were dropped.
