Francesco Angelico (* 1977 in Caltagirone ) is an Italian conductor .

Life

Francesco Angelico was born in Caltagirone in Sicily . After completing his cello studies at the Modena Conservatory in 2001 , he devoted himself to conducting. He began his studies at the University of Music in Lugano with Giorgio Bernasconi and became his assistant in the series 900 Passato e presente , which is dedicated to contemporary music . He also took master classes with Zoltán Peskó , Jorma Panula and Carlo Maria Giulini .

When he won second prize at the Nikolai Malko Competition in 2009, he first drew international attention and has since made guest appearances with orchestras such as the Gewandhaus Orchestra and the Tonhalle Orchestra Zurich . From 2007 to 2011 he was a member of the Conductors' Forum of the German Music Council . In 2013 he made his debut at the Bavarian State Opera .

At the beginning of the 2013/14 season, Francesco Angelico became chief conductor of the Tyrolean Symphony Orchestra . In the 2015/16 season he will make his debut at the Cologne Opera . On January 13, 2017, the Hessian Ministry of Art announced that Francesco Angelico will take over the management of the Kassel State Orchestra as General Music Director from the 2017/2018 season .
