Nikolai Malko Competition

The Nikolai Malko Competition ( Nicolai Malko Competition for Young Conductors ) is a renowned international competition for young conductors . Applicants must be between 20 and 35 years old. The competition is named after the Russian conductor Nikolai Malko (1883–1961).

The competition has been held in Copenhagen every three years since 1965 . The Danish Radio Symphony Orchestra is responsible for the competition . The current jury chairman of the competition is chief conductor Fabio Luisi .

Four prizes are currently being awarded, each worth between 20,000 and 1,500 euros. The winner of the competition has the opportunity to perform concerts with 25 symphony orchestras within three years.
