Alfred Eschwé (born August 22, 1949 in Vienna ) is an Austrian conductor and pianist.

Career

Eschwé completed a musical education at the Conservatory and the Vienna University of Music , including as a student of Hans Swarowsky . After graduating, he went to the stages of Osnabrück and Kiel as Kapellmeister . In 1998 he made his debut as a conductor at the Hamburg State Opera , to which he kept returning.

Eschwé directed Viennese and international orchestras, presented and moderated concerts with the Viennese Johann Strauss Orchestra with works of the Strauss dynasty in European countries as well as in the USA, Japan and Korea. In 1989, Eberhard Waechter signed Alfred Eschwé to the Vienna Volksoper , where he has been responsible for the entire opera and operetta repertoire since then.

In 2003 Eschwé first appeared at the Vienna State Opera . At this house he also conducted the openings of the Vienna Opera Ball in 2009 and 2010.

International guest performances have taken Eschwé to the Teatro Regio di Torino , the Teatro Bellini in Catania , the Teatro Massimo in Palermo and the Teatro Verdi in Trieste . In 2006 he made his debut at the Berlin State Opera Unter den Linden , in 2008 at the Zurich Opera and the Munich State Opera, and in 2009 at the New National Theater, Tokyo . In 2014 he conducted for the first time at the Finnish National Opera in Helsinki .

There are DVD recordings of his conducting of Liebestrank with Anna Netrebko and Rolando Villazón , as well as Der Evangelimann (Volksoper) and Der Graf von Luxemburg ( Theater an der Wien ).

He also performs in a piano duo with his sister Elisabeth.
