Vienna Johann Strauss Orchestra

The Vienna Johann Strauss Orchestra is an ensemble for the performance of orchestral light music of Viennese origin, namely the works of the Strauss dynasty .

The orchestra has existed in its current form since 1966 and ultimately goes back to the Strauss orchestra founded by Johann Strauss the father in 1846 .

Viennese musicians from the small radio orchestra of the ORF formed the basis of the orchestra founded at the time. The ensemble usually has 42 musicians, as was common in the 19th century.

In 1966, a tour through the USA and Canada took place under the direction of Eduard Strauss II . Then in 1969 Willi Boskovsky took over the management. He was followed by Kurt Wöss , Walter Goldschmidt and, since 1983, Alfred Eschwé . Even Vladimir Fedoseyev , Franz Bauer-Theussl , Martin Sieghart , Ola Rudner and Johannes Wildner , conducted the Vienna Johann Strauss Orchestra.

The ensemble has been giving concerts in the Wiener Musikverein since 1981 and has had a concert cycle there since 1999.
