Johannes Wildner

Johannes Wildner (born March 5, 1956 in Mürzzuschlag , Styria ) is an Austrian conductor and university professor.

Life

Johannes Wildner studied conducting in Vienna and Parma (with Karl Österreicher , Otmar Suitner and Vladimir Delman), violin and did a doctorate in musicology. His time as a member of the Vienna Philharmonic and the orchestra of the Vienna State Opera had a lasting impact on his conducting and making music.

After positions as chief conductor of the State Philharmonic Košice (Slovakia, 1990–93) and at the Prague State Opera (1994/95) as well as First Permanent Conductor of the Leipzig Opera (1996–98), Johannes Wildner was General Music Director of the New Westphalia Philharmonic from 1997 to 2007 in Recklinghausen , which is also the opera orchestra of the Musiktheater im Revier in Gelsenkirchen. Several guest conductors at major opera houses followed.

From 2010 to 2014 Johannes Wildner was Principal Guest Conductor of the BBC Concert Orchestra in London. Since 2013 he has also been director of the opera festival “Oper Burg Gars” in Gars am Kamp in northern Lower Austria.

In October 2014 he followed his appointment as professor of conducting at the University of Music and Performing Arts Vienna . Wildner has been conducting the Johann Strauss Orchestra at the Musikverein in Vienna on Austria's national holiday since 2008 .

From 2019 to 2022, Johannes Wildner is the new chief conductor of the Sønderjyllands Symphony Orchestra. in Denmark .

Wildner is a regular guest conductor at major opera houses such as the Volksoper Vienna , Graz Opera House , Salzburg State Theater , Leipzig Opera House , Prague State Opera , Zagreb , Arena di Verona and New National Theater Tokyo . He has made guest appearances with large radio orchestras such as the Bavarian Radio Symphony Orchestra , the German Radio Philharmonic Saarbrücken Kaiserslautern , the MDR Symphony Orchestra , the ORF Vienna Radio Symphony Orchestra and the Danish Radio Symphony Orchestra . Johannes Wildner has recorded numerous CDs, DVDs and videos, including the complete recordings of Fledermaus and Così fan tutte , live recordings of Carmen , Le nozze di Figaro and Così fan tutte as well as the 3rd and 9th symphonies by Anton Bruckner . Recent recordings include three CDs with an unknown repertoire by Erich Zeisl , Joseph Marx and Johann Nepomuk David , as well as in 2010 the complete works for piano and orchestra by Robert Schumann with pianist Lev Vinocour and the Vienna Radio Symphony Orchestra . In 2013 his recording of the Beethoven Violin Concerto with the young Canadian violinist Alexandre da Costa and Beethoven's 7th Symphony was released by Warner Classics. In 2014, works by Frédéric d'Erlanger and Walter Braunfels were recorded with the BBC Concert Orchestra.
