BBC Concert Orchestra
The BBC Concert Orchestra is one of the five orchestras in the British Broadcasting Corporation . It was founded in 1931 and the orchestra is based in London. The orchestra has 50 permanent members, making it the only one of the BBC orchestra, not as a complete symphony orchestra ( full scale symphony orchestra is busy) with an average of 80 to 100 musicians.
With its broad repertoire, the orchestra is considered to be the most versatile of the BBC orchestras. The repertoire includes classical music, light and light music , film music , jazz, rock and pop music. The Concert Orchestra mainly produces music for the BBC radio. One of the BBC's longest-aired music series, BBC Radio 4's Friday Night is Music Night , is performed by this orchestra. The orchestra has produced the soundtrack for many of the films and series produced by the BBC .
The orchestra, which tours regularly both in England and abroad, plays an outstanding role in the BBC's educational work in introducing children, young people and students to classical music, such as: B. in the Ten Pieces Project from 2014.
history
The orchestra goes back to the BBC Theater Orchestra , founded in Bedford in 1931 and based there , which was sometimes referred to as the BBC Opera Orchestra because of its participation in opera performances . Since 1949 it has been officially called the BBC Opera Orchestra. This orchestra was disbanded in January 1952. The BBC Concert Orchestra was formed from the members in the same year. Until 1972 the permanent seat of the orchestra was at the Camden Theater in the London borough of Camden . From 1972 to 2004 it played regularly at the Golders Green Hippodrome in North London.
