Dobrinka Tabakova

Dobrinka Tabakova (Добринка Табакова) (* 1980 in Plovdiv , Bulgaria ) is a British-Bulgarian composer.

Biographical

Dobrinka Tabakova comes from a music-loving academic family. In 1991 she moved with her family to London, where she studied piano , conducting and composition at Alleyn's School and the Royal Academy of Music Junior . She took summer courses at the Center Acanthes in France and the conservatories in Prague and Milan, and received her composition diploma from the Guildhall School of Music and Drama in London. In 2007 she received her PhD in composition from King's College London . Her composition teachers include Iannis Xenakis , Alexander Goehr and Philippe Manoury .

Dobrinka Tabakova was composer-in-residence at the Oxford Chamber Music Festival , Leicester International Chamber Music Festival and the Utrecht International Chamber Music Festival . She was invited as a guest composer to the Spectrum Concerts in Berlin and in 2010 to the Musicarama Festival in Hong Kong.

Awards

  • At the age of 14, Dobrinka Tabakova won the Jean-Frederic-Perrenond Prize of the 4th international music competition in Vienna
  • 1999 the GSMD Lutoslawski Composition Prize
  • and in 2007 the Adam Prize of King's College London for the song cycle Sonnets to Sundry Notes of Music
  • 2017 composer in residence of the BBC Concert Orchestra
