The Chinese Philharmonic Orchestra ( Chinese  中國 愛樂 樂團  /  中国 爱乐 乐团 , Pinyin Zhōngguó Àiyuè Yuètuán , English China Philharmonic Orchestra , CPO ) are a symphony orchestra in Beijing , People's Republic of China . The CPO was founded on March 25, 2000 as the successor to the Chinese Broadcasting Symphony Orchestra and is subordinate to the " State Administration of Radio, Film, and Television " of the People's Republic of China.

The first concert was given on December 16, 2000 under the direction of the conductor Long Yu . In the first season, the world premiere of the cello concerto by Philip Glass was played and an arrangement of the Beijing opera Women Generals of the Yangs for symphony orchestra by Du Mingxin was the first symphonic commissioned work by the CPO.

The CPO toured Taiwan in 2001 and Japan and Korea in 2002 . His biggest overseas tour was in 2005 when the orchestra performed in 25 cities in 7 European and North American countries. In 2004, the German conductor Klaus Weise conducted the Chinese Philharmonic at two concerts.
