Franz Bauer-Theussl

Franz Bauer-Theussl (born September 25, 1928 in Zillingdorf , † April 30, 2010 in Salzburg ) was an Austrian conductor .

Life

Franz Bauer-Theussl studied piano at the Vienna Music Academy and was the last student of Clemens Krauss after graduating .

He made his debut on March 4, 1957 at the Vienna Volksoper with Lehár's Land of Smiles and was musical director of Die Fledermaus , Martha (Bauer-Theussl's first premiere on September 28, 1957), Wiener Blut , Rigoletto , and Der Zigeunerbaron in his first season , A Waltz Dream and The Begging Student . During the following three decades he conducted 26 premieres at the Volksoper. In total, he conducted over 3000 performances here.

His career has taken him as a city Kapellmeister at the City Theater in Baden (1950), as head of opera to the State Theater in Salzburg (1953-1957) at the Volksoper in Vienna , and from 1960 to 1964 as music director of the Amsterdam Opera.

As a co-founder of the Mörbisch Seefestspiele , he was also its first conductor. He also conducted numerous performances with the Vienna Symphony Orchestra at the Bregenz Festival .

During a concert on the 100th birthday of Franz Lehár with the Bruckner Orchestra in Bad Ischl in April 1970, he discovered his affection for the Salzkammergut and settled in Unterach am Attersee .

He became known to a wider audience through Heinz Conrads ' regular piano accompaniment .

Bauer-Theussl was married to the ballet dancer Herta Lonsky and is the father of the actress Johanna Lonsky (* 1958). He died on Lehár's birthday on April 30, 2010 in Salzburg.

Awards

In addition, the 1000 m² Bauer-Theussl-Park, a playground in Wiener Neustadt , was named after him during his lifetime .
