Bernhard Heher (born December 29, 1962 in Puchberg am Schneeberg ) is an Austrian military bandmaster and chief musician of the Austrian Armed Forces.

Life

As a child, Heher was taught the clarinet by his grandfather, while at school he attended the Puchberg Music School, and from 1979 to 1981 he studied clarinet as an extraordinary listener at the Vienna University of Music with Horst Hajek . In October 1981 he enlisted as a basic military servant to the military music of the Guard Battalion , then he signed up as a regular soldier, completed a three-year training as a music sergeant and became a registry manager for woodwind instruments. From 1984 to 1990 he studied as a full listener at the Vienna Conservatory with Roger Salander, in 1990 he passed the state teaching examination in instrumental and vocal pedagogy (IGP) as well as the diploma examination in clarinet as a major.

In 1994 Heher began training as a military bandmaster, which he successfully completed in 1995 with the military bandmaster examination. In addition, Heher completed the mandatory training as a militia officer in Linz-Ebelsberg. At the same time, he completed a conducting technical training with Franz Bauer-Theussl . With the diploma thesis on the subject of Prof. Franz Bauer-Theussl, a life as a conductor at the University of Music and Performing Arts Vienna, he graduated in 2001 with a master's degree . In 1998 he began studying instrumental pedagogy at the University of Music and Performing Arts in Vienna with Gerald Kraxberger and Rupert Fankhauser.

From June 1, 1996 to September 30, 1997, Heher was second Kapellmeister at the Tyrolean Military Music. From October 1st, 1997 to November 30th, 2002 he was the head of music training and second Kapellmeister of the Guard Music in Vienna . Since December 1, 2002, he has been the first Kapellmeister of the Guard Music Vienna as the successor to Johann Schadenbauer . In June 1996 Heher was promoted to lieutenant, on July 1, 2001 to major and on July 1, 2011 to colonel .

With effect from February 16, 2009, Heher was appointed head of the Austrian military music service by the chief of staff, General Edmund Entacher, and thus, both musically and militarily-operationally, superior.
