Matthäus Schmidlechner

Matthäus Schmidlechner (born July 23, 1976 in Thalgau ) is an Austrian opera singer ( tenor ).

Life

Matthäus Schmidlechner attended a higher technical college for electronics, where he passed the Matura and then worked as a social worker for five years . In addition, in 2001 he began to study singing with William Mason and Kurt Azesberger at the Anton Bruckner Private University in Linz , which he graduated with honors in February 2005 with the diploma examination for the “ Bachelor of Arts”. He continued his training with Thomas Kerbl in the subjects of song, oratorio and opera with a focus on Ernst Krenek and graduated in 2007 with final exams at public university events. The result of this course is a thesis on the influence of Schubert on Ernst Krenek's work.

Schmidlechner made his stage debut during his vocal studies in May 2003 at the Landestheater Linz with five recitative movements by Arbace in Idomeneo . Self in the Magic Flute and in the revision "Crazy for You" of Gershwin - musical " Girl Crazy " was followed in October of the same year. Since then, Schmidlechner has been involved - initially as a guest and from 2007/08 as a permanent member of the ensemble - at the Landestheater Linz (since 2013 at the Musiktheater Linz venue ). In addition to this commitment in the field of opera, operetta and musicals, song singing, in particular the song cycle “Travel Book from the Austrian Alps” op. 62 by Ernst Krenek from 1929, forms a second focus.

Guest appearances take him to Bad Hall , to the Steyr Music Festival , to the Leonfeldner Kantorei , to the Opera Festival “ Oper Klosterneuburg ”, to the Theater Ulm , to operettas in the Schlosstheater Schönbrunn and to the Mozart Festival in Kawaminami ( Japan ). Since 2007 Schmidlechner has been working in the “Kulturfabrik Helfenberg” of his teacher William Mason.

Schmidlechner lives with his wife Sonja, a music school teacher, and their two children in Wilhering .
