Kurt Azesberger

Kurt Azesberger (born April 8, 1960 in Arnreit , Upper Austria ; † August 10, 2020 ) was an Austrian opera singer ( tenor ), teacher and church musician.

Life

Kurt Azesberger received his first musical training from the Boys' Choir in St. Florian Monastery , where he also worked as a soloist in the alto range . He attended the Musikgymnasium Linz and studied music education at the University of Music in Vienna and singing with Hilde Rössel-Majdan and Kurt Equiluz .

He was internationally active as an interpreter of church music ( Bach passions, masses ) and as an opera ( Mozart , Strauss ) and lieder singer ( Schubert , Schönberg ). He worked with Franz Welser-Möst , among others , but also with Claudio Abbado , Nikolaus Harnoncourt and Kent Nagano . He had engagements in Florence, Venice (Elektra), Milan (Rosenkavalier), Rome (Meistersinger, Rheingold, Król Roger), Munich (Clever Vixen) and also in China.

Since 2014 he has held the post of collegiate bandmaster at Wilhering Abbey, succeeding his teacher Balduin Sulzer .

He was a university lecturer in a master’s class at the Anton Bruckner private university in Linz .
