Käthe Kratz (born January 24, 1947 in Salzburg ) is an Austrian filmmaker and writer. She was the first Austrian TV fiction film director and is one of the feminist pioneers in the Austrian film scene. She lives in Vienna and on the Croatian island of Šolta .

Life

Käthe Kratz was the first student to study directing at the Vienna Film School . While still studying, she made her first documentary films as a freelancer for ORF, such as 1976 Happy Times , 1979–1988 the five-part series Life Lines - Portraits from Three Generations of Oppression of Women, which was also published as a novel in 1983, 1994 In the Sign of Love , movies such as 1983 Breathlessness and 1994 the 10th year . The 10th year had come out as a play two years earlier.

With Susanne Zanke , Kitty Kino , Heide Pils and Margareta Heinrich , she belonged to the informal group 'Aktion Filmfrauen' and is a member of the Graz Authors' Assembly (GAV).

In addition to her filmic work, Käthe Kratz taught at the Vienna Film Academy , the Danube University Krems and the Art University Graz .

Käthe Kratz was Peter Turrini's partner for many years .
