The Schierer Mühle in the municipality of Schwalmtal was a water mill with an undershot water wheel .

The Schierer Mühle was located on Kranenbach , in the district of Schier 15-17, in the municipality of Schwalmtal in the district of Viersen. Above the Schierer Mühle was the Hausermühle , below the Pletschmühle . The water level of the Kranenbach in this area was 50 m above sea level. The care and maintenance of the stream is the responsibility of the Schwalm Association , which is based in Brüggen .

history

The Lords of Bocholtz , whose headquarters was near Lobberich , had also owned three mills since the 13th century: the Lüttelforster mill , the Hausermühle and the Schierer mill. The Schierer mill has had many names in its history: "Mühle am Berg" - "Berger Mühle" - "Vossenmühle" - "Fußenkuhlenmühle" and also "Schender Mühle". It was located on the Kranenbach, a tributary of the Schwalm and was operated as an oil and grain mill. At the beginning of the 19th century the mill was given into private hands.

By 1920 the mill had been "passed on" seven times before the ancestors of the current owner took over the mill. The dilapidated building was repaired and got a new water wheel. The stream regulation and the retention right meant the end of the water drive. The attempt to switch to electric drive failed because of the heavy millstones. In 1927 the mill was stopped. The pond was filled. Only the fluted millstones of the grinding tunnels and the smooth ones of the pan treads in the front garden are reminiscent of the mill .
