The Dilborner Mühle is a water mill in the municipality of Niederkrüchten , with at times two undershot water wheels .
geography
The Dilborn mill is located on the lower reaches of the Schwalm in the Overhetfeld district in the Niederkrüchten community in the Viersen district . Above is the Brüggener mill , below, on Dutch territory, the Swalmen mill . In front of the mill is a small pond , the water level of which is 38 m above sea level. It is the last mill on the German side to be supplied with water from the Schwalm.
history
Mill and Castle Dilborn stood for centuries in close connection. Nevertheless, the Dilborn mill used to be called "Elmpter Mill". This is also how it appears in the Tranchot map from 1806 and in the Ferrari map 1771–1778.
The Dilborn mill is the only mill on the Schwalm that had two water wheels installed inside the mill house. This meant that they were better protected from the weather and could also be operated in winter. The mill was used as an oil and grain mill until 1949. The grinder and a water wheel are still completely intact. The extensive area around the mill building is used as a campsite all year round .
Monument entry
It is a two-storey brick building with a mezzanine floor from the beginning to the middle of the 19th century . Most of the rooms in the house have Cologne ceilings . Only the rooms on the upper floor that border the mill wing do not have Cologne ceilings. An operating chamber is accessible from the stairs , which is located on the rear left side of the living area. The room layout is original. The mill wing is probably the older part of the brick building, in 4 axes with a classicist entrance door with bluestone walls . The mill wing is drawn deeper into the courtyard. It is in very good condition.
The entire three-course grinder is completely preserved, as is the gearbox and the ancillary equipment. The supporting columns and the entire structure are similar to that of the Clörath mill. The roof structure over the two buildings is original. The remains of two chimney blocks have also been preserved in the attic.
The house and the mill wing are important evidence of the local and settlement history as well as the history of mankind. Preservation and use are therefore in the public interest for scientific, ethnological and urban planning reasons.
