The wheel mill in Schwalmtal was a water mill with at times two undershot water wheels.

geography

The Radermühle is located on the middle course of the Schwalm on the western edge of the Schwalmtal community in the Viersen district . The mill is located directly on the Schwalmtaler municipality border with Niederkrüchten . Above the Radermühle is the Pannenmühle , below the Brempter Mühle. The water level is 46 m above sea level.

history

The Rader mill, which also used to be called Rather mill and Rader Berger mill, first appears in 1319, where she served as Dominalmühle Jülich Count to the Lords of Brempt for 12 Malter grain in long lease was awarded. In a document from the Duke of Jülich , the Radermühle is expressly declared a ban mill , so that all residents of Niederkrüchten and Burgwaldniel up to the Waldniel church had to have the mill milled. In 1598, after being demolished, the Radermühle was rebuilt as an artistic baroque building . The farmers in the area were obliged to do manual labor and labor to build the new mill .

In 1804 the mill, which had been confiscated as feudal property by the French state, was sold to the merchant Johann Heinrich Printzen for 17,600 francs. The mill was operated as a grinding and oil mill and had two large water wheels . In 1950 the milling operation was stopped.
