geography
The Brempter Mühle is located on the left side of the Schwalm on Brückenstraße in the Brempt district in the municipality of Niederkrüchten in the Viersen district . There is a large pond in front of the mill . Above the Brempter Mühle is the Radermühle , below the Mühlrath Mühle. The water level is 46 m above sea level.
The Brempter Mühle is located on the middle course of the Schwalm, which has its source in Genhof , a district of the town of Erkelenz .
history
The Brempter Mühle was first mentioned in 1575 and belonged to the Brempt Castle of the Counts of Bylandt. It is known from the 16th century that the miller of the Brempter Mühle had to deliver oil to both the parish church of Niederkrüchten and the Brempter chapel .
From later times in the 19th century it is known that the mill had two water wheels and that two oil presses and three grinding stages were driven. Around 1895 the mill operation is completely stopped. A restaurant has been in operation for about 80 years . In 1998 the mill building was extensively restored for residential use. An iron water wheel with 40 blades and remnants of the mill technology that was renewed a few years ago are still preserved.
Monument entry
The entire Brempter Mühle facility was built in the mid-19th century. It consists of the two structures described below: a) open, four-winged courtyard, two-storey residential building in 5 axes with blue stone door walls and sills, crooked hip roof ; b) Mill building, brick, 2-storey, one side plastered, the rear mill wheel . The state of preservation is good.
For ethnological reasons, there is a public interest in the maintenance and use of the entire complex, as the buildings are important for the history and development of working and production conditions. (List of monuments No. 7)
