The Lüthemühle is a former watermill in Nettetal - Breyell , located on the Nette , with sometimes two undershot water wheels .
geography
The Lüthemühle was located on the Nette, at Lindenallee 50, in the Breyell district in the town of Nettetal in the Viersen district in North Rhine-Westphalia. The Nette has a height of approx. 40 m above sea level here . The care and maintenance of the water is the responsibility of the Netteverband , which is based in Nettetal.
history
The oldest mill in the municipality of Breyell is without a doubt the Lüthemühle, which was also called Vogelsangsmühle in earlier times. 1419 is the first documentary mention. The name changed several times, the mill was called “Luythenmühle” (1559), “Leuttenmuehlen” (1632) and “Leuthen Mühlen” (1763).
In 1828 the Lüthemühle is described as follows: The mill has two undershot water wheels in two channels ; the first makes one mill for wheat and two mills for rye ; these three grindings are interchangeable and can only be used individually. The second wheel drives an oil mill with a barrel. From November to May , in normal years, a grinding cycle can be put into operation from 5:00 a.m. to 8:00 a.m. during the other months, due to lack of water, barely five hours a day. The oil run can only be used six hours a day in normal years from November to May, in the other months only one or two days a week and then only four hours a day. The tax amount for the mill is 12 thalers .
In 1851 the mill was completely renovated. The two buildings must have been built at that time with a narrow roofed alley for the water wheels, which is now closed. In 1945 the grinding aisles were shut down. The intention to install a 15/18 HP turbine failed because of the high costs and the low water pressure. The buildings are now widely known as an inn and riding stables.
