Lurago Marinone is a northern Italian municipality ( comune ) with 2767 inhabitants (as of December 31, 2019) in the province of Como in Lombardy .

geography

The municipality is located about 14 kilometers southwest of Como on the edge of the Parco della Pineta di Appiano Gentile e Tradate near the Lura . Neighboring municipalities are: Appiano Gentile, Carbonate, Fenegrò, Limido Comasco, Mozzate, Veniano.

history

An inscription on the Georgskirche refers to the year 1216, while some documents mention the place as early as the 12th century. The foundation of the Georgskirche can be dated to the 7th century. The town's castle was razed by the Milanese troops in 1284. In 1574, Karl Borromeo had a new church built.
