Pigra is an Italian municipality ( comune ) with 237 inhabitants (as of December 31, 2019) in Lombardy in the province of Como .

geography

The municipality is located 540 meters north of Lake Como at an altitude of 881  m slm in the Val d'Intelvi and belongs to the Comunità montana del Lario Intelvese . The village can be reached via the road from Argegno or, since June 16, 2011, after a period of closure, again by cable car from the lake in five minutes. The closest cities are Lugano , 15 km west, and Como , 17 km south.

The state border with Switzerland runs eight kilometers to the west . The neighboring municipalities are Argegno , Dizzasco , Blessagno , Colonno and Laino .

history

The village came under the rule of the Visconti in 1335 ; In 1416 it was a fiefdom of the Rusconi and in 1527 it came under Gian Giacomo Medici , known as Medeghino , who took possession of the lake and its surroundings from Musso Castle . In 1583 it was owned by the Marliani family and in 1713 by the Riva family.

The pastor Don Cavalli had taken part in the uprising against the Austrians led by Andrea Brenta in 1848 and was therefore later forced into exile.
