Monguzzo ( Mùngòzz in Lombard dialect ) is a municipality in the Lombardy province of Como .
geography
It has 2378 inhabitants (as of December 31, 2019) and is 20 km from Como , 45 km from Milan and 25 km from Lecco . It includes the following fractions: Nobile , Bassetto e Fornace , Cascina Bindella , Cascina Enrichetta , Cascina Nuova , Cascina San Biagio , Cascina Solferino , Poggio Castello , Poggio Cavolto , Sceria .
The neighboring municipalities are Albavilla , Alserio , Alzate Brianza , Erba , Lurago d'Erba , Merone and Lambrugo . Monguzzo is located in the Lambrotal Nature Park and develops on a hill dominated by a feudal castle. Today this castle is owned by the "Fatebenefratelli" hospital order and can only be visited on the second Sunday in September.
Local structure
Monguzzo can be divided into three inhabited areas:
- Monguzzo, which is located on the hill with the feudal castle
- Nobile, which lies at the foot of the hill in the eastern part of the municipality; Nobile was once famous for the peach tree in the province of Monza and Brianza : the inhabitants of Nobile were called Persegatt ("peach producers") in dialect .
- Poggio Cavolto, a residential area developed in the 1970s, located on the southern slope of the hill, on the border with the municipality of Lurago d'Erba .
Attractions
There are two churches in the municipality,
- the SS. Biagio e Sebastiano parish church (1878) in via Chiesa and
- the Sanctuary of Madonna di Lourdes (13th century) in via Santuario, both churches have recently been restored
- numerous renovated farms ("cascines") around which small inhabited areas were built. The Cascine Solferino , Bindella , Enrichetta , Nuova and Bassetto deserve special mention.
