The municipality is located about 6.5 kilometers southwest of Como and includes the fractions: Brugo , Civello , Maccio , Masano , Mosino , Sordello , San Vittore , Mazzee , Meraccio , Macciasca , Chiavette , Isolati di Maccio . The neighboring communities are: Bulgarograsso , Cassina Rizzardi , Colverde , Grandate , Luisago , Lurate Caccivio and Montano Lucino .

The municipality was created by law in 1928 from the present districts and then municipalities of Maccio and Civello .
