Turate is a northern Italian municipality ( comune ) with 9541 inhabitants (as of December 31, 2019) in the province of Como in Lombardy . The municipality is located about 19 kilometers south-southwest of Como and about 24 kilometers northwest of Milan . Turate borders directly on the province of Varese .

Turate is on the A 9 autostrada , which leads to Como and further into Ticino , Switzerland . There is a motorway connection. The former state road 233 also runs through the municipality in a north-westerly direction to Varese . The Gerenzano-Turate station is on the Saronno – Laveno railway line , but it is located in the neighboring municipality of Gerenzano .
