Plesio is a northern Italian municipality ( comune ) with 834 inhabitants (as of December 31, 2019) in the province of Como in Lombardy .
geography
The municipality is located about 28 kilometers from Como in Val Menaggio on Lake Como and belongs to the Comunità Montana Valli del Lario e del Ceresio . It includes the following fractions: Barna , Breglia , Calveseglio , Ligomena , Logo . To the west of the village lies the Valle Menaggio, through which a connecting path leads via Porlezza to Lugano in Switzerland . The neighboring municipalities are: Cremia , Garzeno , Grandola ed Uniti , Menaggio , San Siro .

Plesio is one of the most important sites of the Bronze Age Golasecca culture .

Personalities
- Gasparo Mola (* 1571 in Breglia di Plesio; † January 26, 1640 in Rome ), son of Donato del Molo from Breglia , lived in Como and then at the papal court in Rome, worked for Pope Urban VIII : goldsmith, coin worker, chaser and head of the papal mint. He was called Cellini lombardo .
- Gian Pietro Lucini (* 1867 in Milan , † 1914 in Breglia), poet
- Giuseppe Carimati, Mayor, author of the Storia di Plesio ( Vannini Verlag, Brescia)
- Don Umberto Marmori (* 1885 in Ponna ; † January 18, 1945 in Cernobbio ), ordained a priest in May 1910, was vicar in Lenno from 1910 to 1921 . He then was pastor in front of Plesio from 1921 to 1933. He became provost of Cernobbio. In 1934 he helped many soldiers and Jews to escape abroad. He was arrested on January 24, 1944 by the Schutzstaffel (SS) and taken to San Vittore prison in Milan. His arrest was made public on February 27, 1944. In May 1944 he was assigned to an exile in Bergamo . He became seriously ill, and with obvious signs of torture, was brought back to Cernobbio on the evening of January 16, 1945, where he died on January 18, 1945.
