geography

The municipality is located about 14.5 kilometers north of Como near the western shore of Lake Como in the Val d'Intelvi . Dizzasco is located at the beginning of the Val d'Intelvi in the western branch of Lake Como, is on a wooded terrace of glacial origin. In the valley below, enveloped in a deep valley, flows the Telo (river), which flows into Argegno at Lake Como (Lario) .

Dizzasco consists of several districts: Biazzeno , Rovascio , Muronico and Cavrano . The neighboring municipalities are Centro Valle Intelvi , Schignano , Argegno , Colonno , Pigra and Blessagno .

history

In the Middle Ages, Dizzasco shared the fate of the entire Val d'Intelvi. It was an ally of Como in the decades-long war (1118–1127) against Milan. In the Renaissance it was a fiefdom of the Visconti , Rusconi (1541) and Marliani (1583).

In the early 19th century, during the reign of the Austro-Hungarian Empire , Andrea Brenta, a leader of the Risorgimento , supported by Giuseppe Mazzini , organized a group of villagers with the aim of driving the Austrians away. Giuseppe Mazzini, who was in Lugano in 1848 , often traveled into the valley to prepare for the uprising. This ended with the arrest and execution of Andrea Brenta and Andretti in Como.

British Prime Minister Winston Churchill found inspiration for his paintings in the quiet of the valley, as evidenced by his depiction of the Church of San Sisinio.
