Dongo is a small town with 3289 inhabitants (as of December 31, 2019) in the Italian province of Como , Lombardy region .

geography

The place is located on the northwestern shore of Lake Como . The area of ​​the municipality covers 7 km². The patron saint of the place is Santo Stefano . Neighboring municipalities are Colico ( LC ), Consiglio di Rumo , Garzeno , Germasino , Musso , Pianello del Lario and Stazzona . The municipality is located on the delta of the Albano River.

history

Here Benito Mussolini , who wanted to flee to Valtellina in a German troop transport in April 1945 (towards the end of the Second World War ) , was recognized by partisans and taken prisoner.
