Bene Lario v north

Bene Lario is a small northern Italian municipality with 329 inhabitants (as of December 31, 2019) in the Italian province of Como in the Lombardy region .

geography

The municipality is located about 26.5 kilometers north-northeast of Como at the foot of the Monte Calbiga mountain ( 1698  m slm ). It is about 50 km from Como and its territory is between the municipalities of Carlazzo to the north, Porlezza to the east and Grandola ed Uniti to the west and Tremezzina to the south.

Former railroad

In the past there was a railway line between Menaggio and Porlezza . The service was opened in 1884 and suspended in 1939 due to the outbreak of World War II . In 1946 a project to electrify the small railroad was presented; it was approved in 1949, but the renovations were never triggered. The railroad was no longer in service and was eventually suppressed and abandoned in 1966.
