Schignano is a northern Italian municipality ( comune ) with 870 inhabitants (as of December 31, 2019) in Val d'Intelvi in the province of Como in Lombardy .

geography

The municipality is located about 12.5 kilometers north-northeast of Como in the Val d'Intelvi on the Swiss border with the canton of Ticino . A few kilometers to the east is Lake Como . The highest point of the municipality is on Sasso Gordona at 1,410 m above sea level. M height.

The municipality includes different fractions Almanno , Molobio , Occagno , Ovrascio , Posa , Perla , Retegno , Vesbio and is located in a basin surrounded by the mountains: Gringo , Monte Comana , Treviglio , Pizzo della Croce (the highest at 1,491 m above sea level. M.), and Monte San Zeno . Neighboring municipalities are Argegno , Brienno , Breggia (CH-TI), Carate Urio , Centro Valle Intelvi , Cerano d'Intelvi , Dizzasco and Moltrasio .

history

A sword with a scabbard was found in the community. The iron of the sword can be dated to 120 BC. Chr. Are dated around, today it is in the Archaeological Museum Paolo Giovio visit of Como.
