Erba is an Italian city with 16,335 inhabitants (as of December 31, 2019) in the province of Como in Lombardy .
geography
Erba is about 13 km east of Como in the Brianza . The districts are Arcellasco , Bindella , Buccinigo , California , Campolongo , Carpesino , Crevenna , Incasate , Mevate and Sassonia . The neighboring communities are Albavilla , Caslino d'Erba , Castelmarte , Eupilio , Faggeto Lario , Longone al Segrino , Merone , Monguzzo , Ponte Lambro and Proserpio .
The place can be reached via the A9 motorway exit Como. Erba has a train station on the Milan - Asso railway line .
history
The origin of the community is unknown. People already settled here in Roman times. In 1926, Erba merged with seven surrounding towns.

Trivia
During the soccer World Cup in Italy in 1990 , the German national soccer team stayed in the luxury hotel "Castello di Casiglio" in Erba. The team of trainer Franz Beckenbauer with stars like Lothar Matthäus , Andreas Brehme , Jürgen Klinsmann and Rudi Völler became soccer world champions at the tournament.
