Player career
In the club
Moreno Torricelli's career began like a modern fairy tale, he was working in a furniture factory when a friendly game of his team US Caratese , for which he played as a hobby, against Juventus Turin changed his life. In July 1992, due to his performance in this game, he was allowed to take part in the preparation for the season of Juve and the coach at that time Giovanni Trapattoni was impressed by his strength of tackle and willpower. So he was signed by Juventus for a few million lire .
Torricelli made his Serie A debut for Juventus on September 13, 1992 in a 4-1 win against Atalanta Bergamo . He quickly became a regular player because he could be used in all positions in defense and won the UEFA Cup against Borussia Dortmund in his first season .
Probably the best seasons of his career he played between 1994/95 and 1997/98. With top performances he contributed to winning three Italian championships , a Coppa Italia , a Champions League , the World Cup , the European Supercup and two Italian Supercups for Juventus Turin.
In the summer of 1998 he moved to AC Florence at his own request , where his discoverer Giovanni Trapattoni was now a coach. Moreno Torricelli played an impeccable season again and reached third place in the table with his team, which qualified for Champions League qualification . In the 2000/01 season he was able to win the Coppa Italia for the second time in his career. He played until January 2003 with Fiorentina , which filed for bankruptcy in 2002 and had to relegate to Serie C2 for the 2002/03 season . In January 2003 he moved to Spain to Espanyol Barcelona , where he played for two years.
In November 2004 he went back to Italy to his last professional station, AC Arezzo in Serie B , where he played until summer 2005.
In the national team
