The Jennekes mill in the municipality of Schwalmtal was a water mill with an undershot water wheel .

geography

The Jennekes Mühle is located on the middle course of the Schwalm in the nature reserve "Lüttelforster Bruch" in the municipality of Schwalmtal in the district of Viersen . You did not need a pond to operate . Above the Jennekes mill was the Papelter mill , below the Lüttelforster mill . The water level is 52 m above sea level.

Until 1928 the mill was located directly on the Schwalm, which has its source in Genhof , a district of the town of Erkelenz .

history

Very little is known about the history of the Jennekes Mill. The first entry on the Tranchot card was made in 1806. Here it is registered by Tranchot under the surname Jennekes. While the mill was registered with two oil presses in 1829, in 1900 it was only designated as a grain mill . In 1918 the use as a file grinding shop was changed again . The relocation of the creek bed, which accompanied the river straightening of the Schwalm in 1928, meant the end of the use of hydropower. The property has been used for residential purposes since then.
