The Kothmühle is a watermill in Lobberich , located on the Nette, with an undershot water wheel .
geography
The Kothmühle is located on the Nette , Flothend, in the Lobberich district in the town of Nettetal in the Viersen district in North Rhine-Westphalia. The Nette has a height of approx. 46 m above sea level here . The care and maintenance of the water is the responsibility of the Netteverband , which is based in Nettetal.
history
The first mention of the Kothmühle goes back to the year 1441, as a Krickenbeck community of heirs of twelve members, led by "Harman and Aleyt van Kreckenbeck geheiten van der Neelsen", the "Kaethmuhle" to "heynen moellner" - the miller Heinrich and his wife Leave a long lease to Katharina Greven "for ever". The lease document was accompanied by a list of the farms with compulsory payment.
From the 16th century the family v. Bocholtz took over the main shares in the mill. The mill was operated as a grinding mill with an undershot water wheel. Around 1839 the last of the noble owners, Maximilian v. Bentinck , the property. The new owner bought a 12 hp steam locomotive and was thus independent of water power. The water wheel only ran when there was enough water. In 1935 the mill was closed.
