Right to stow

The impoundment rights was before the Prussian reforms only nobles and monasteries reserved for law, for the damming of rivers and streams taxes to demand. It was eliminated by the Prussian reforms in the 19th century and replaced by the state granting of usage rights, which was motivated by water management.

According to § 8 and § 9 of the Water Resources Act (WHG), the damming of surface waters usually requires a permit or permit in accordance with § 10 WHG.
