The Schwalmverband is a water and soil association that operates in the administrative districts of Düsseldorf and Cologne . Its seat is in Brüggen .

Association area

The association's territory extends from Brüggen to Erkelenz and from Mönchengladbach to the Dutch border. This affects the Heinsberg and Viersen districts . The municipalities of Brüggen, Erkelenz, Mönchengladbach, Niederkrüchten , Schwalmtal and Wegberg are affected .

The catchment area of ​​the Schwalm covers 277 square kilometers. The association is responsible for 250 square kilometers.

In 1910 a plan for the Schwalmtal improvement was drawn up . As a result, a melioration cooperative was founded in 1917. In 1924 the cooperative hired its own workers. In 1929 the river Schwalm was improved. In 1971 the area was expanded to include today's association area. The Melioritenverband was 1938 in Water and Soil Association Schwalm and 1971 in Schwalm Association renamed.

Organs of the Schwalmtalverband are the association assembly, consisting of the association members entitled to vote , and a 14-member board. This is made up as follows:

  • One representative from each member city and municipality
  • One representative each from the Heinsberg and Viersen members
  • three representatives of the aggravated and property owners in the association area
  • three representatives proposed by the Rhineland Chamber of Agriculture and resident in the association area
