Theater to be feared

from Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia

The Theater zum Fear is Vienna 's largest independent theater company.

It was founded by Bruno Max in 1987 and has realized around two hundred and fifty theater projects since then, some in unusual venues such as circus tents, nightclubs, anatomical lecture halls, and some in the private theaters he operates: 1987 to 1998 Theater in den Gewölben, 1991–1993 Residenztheater im Museumsquartier, since 1995 in the Scala Vienna, since 1998 in the Stadttheater Mödling and since 1999 in the Theater im Bunker , as well as in the company's own theater bus. Eight to ten projects are created every year, and more than 400 actors have been involved so far. One focus of the productions is on works by the Anglo-Saxon, Elizabethan and "black" literature, but around a third are first and world premieres.

Scala in Margareten

Today's Theater Scala Wien was built in 1995 in the former “Atlantiskino” in the Margareten district , Wiedner Hauptstraße 108 by Bruno Max and his company Theater zum Fear and has since been used as a multifunctional theater space for 90–160 spectators. More than 130 performances take place each year, in fact exclusively in-house productions. The flexibility of the theater space enables unusual and experimental forms of play as well as "conventional" room solutions and is home to the theater to fear. Games are currently being subsidized by the Austrian BMUKK and the City of Vienna's Department of Culture . These productions are mostly shared with the sister stage, the Mödlinger Stadttheater.
