Stubnblues (dialect for room blues ) is a musical project by the Austrian singer Wilhelm "Willi" Resetarits with the musicians of the Xtra Combo .

repertoire

"Stubnblues" is neither a band name nor an exactly definable style of music. Blues is also part of the repertoire, but although the name can also be read as “Stub'n Blues”, it is not in the foreground. Performed with mostly non-electronically amplified instruments - microphones are used if necessary, but it can be played in every room - the Stubnblues presents a mixture of Viennese songs , folk music (Resetarits' origin, not least from Burgenland-Croatian ), rhythm and blues , Funk , soul , samba and other things that musicians like.

About the genesis of the Stubnblues, Resetarits tells how he and friends found himself snowed in for two or three days in a mountain hut on the Stubnerkogel near Bad Gastein . The time was used to make music together, creating the “Stubnerblues” among other things. When the weather allowed it again, they hiked on to the next hut and played there in the room, mainly pieces by Van Morrison , but also by Lou Rawls , Willy DeVille and folk songs. At the beginning of November 2004 some of these concerts were recorded in the ARGE KULTURgelände Salzburg and published in 2005 as a live album Stubnblues (live in the arge beisl) by Willi Resetarits + Xtra Combo.

As early as 1994 Resetarits had organized an Advent reading with music in Salzburg with musician friends, some of whom also found themselves in the Xtra Combo, together with the writer HC Artmann . This performance can be regarded as an early forerunner of the Stubnblues, because settings of Artmann's dialect poems, whether read or sung and with music, became an integral part of the group's program. As Resetarits explains, the poet's texts are the “guideline that should protect us from negligence” . On Aus sun und aus regn (coll. For Aus Sonne und aus Regen ), the second album from 2007, these pieces stand next to “Picking a girl Ribisel” by cabaret artist Karl Farkas (music: Ralph Benatzky ) and songs by Tom Waits and Van Morrison, Austrian artists such as Peter Blaikner and Verena Göltl, as well as original compositions by the Stubnblues musicians.

The cover versions of English-speaking artists are performed in English, folk songs also in Croatian . Otherwise, the (Eastern) Austrian dialect, including Viennese , plays a central role, as used in the texts of Artmann, but also Resetarit or Stefan Schubert, who is also responsible for a large part of the compositions.

The annual appearance of the Stubnblues at the end of June / beginning of July at the Pongratz winery in Gamlitz in southern Styria is now traditional. In 2007 a Stubnblues wine from the winery was presented for this purpose. In addition to numerous concerts in Austria and other German-speaking countries, a Stubnblues tour arranged by the Austrian Cultural Forum New York led to Chicago, Ottawa, Washington DC and New York at the beginning of 2010 . A series of concerts in Turkey followed in the middle of the year.
