Judith Herzberg
Judith Herzberg (born November 4, 1934 in Amsterdam ; born Judith Frieda Lina Herzberg ) is a Dutch writer , poet and playwright .
Life
The daughter of the writer and lawyer Abel Jacob Herzberg and his wife Thea Loeb-Herzberg survived the persecution of the Jews during the German occupation with non-Jewish foster parents in the countryside. Her first work appeared in 1961 in the Dutch weekly magazine Vrij Nederland . In 1963 she published her first volume of poetry with Zeepost , which was followed by more.
In 1972 her first play appeared, The Door Was Open . She also wrote screenplays for films, of which Charlotte S. was particularly noted in 1981 about the fate of the Jewish painter Charlotte Salomon . For this she received the Bavarian Film Prize .
Several of her works deal with the subject of the Holocaust , including Lea's wedding , which deals with the fate of Holocaust survivors in 83 individual scenes. Herzberg teaches as a lecturer at the film schools in Amsterdam and Jerusalem. She also wrote some pieces for children and translated works by Euripides , August Strindberg , Ernst Jandl and Maxim Gorki .
Herzberg lives in Amsterdam and Jerusalem and is still politically active today. In 2006 she published a protest poem about Taida Pasić , the girl from Kosovo who was expelled from the Netherlands in April 2006.
