occupation

Misconduct is a German fiction film by Gerd Schneider from 2015. It is about the friendship of three Catholic priests, one of whom comes under extreme pressure because of suspected sexual abuse. The film had its premiere on January 20, 2015 in the competition of the Max Ophüls Preis film festival . The German theatrical release was on March 26, 2015.

action

The three priests Jakob, Dominik and Oliver like to meet for a game on the soccer field or a beer in the pub. While Oliver is resolutely tackling his career in the diocese, the sociable and people-loving Dominik is a guide for Jakob, who is to be promoted as a prison pastor after four years and is looking forward to the challenge. The three friends are united by the belief that they can make a difference in the Catholic Church.

When Dominik is taken into custody on suspicion of sexual abuse, Jakob is convinced that it was a mistake. But the allegations of the alleged abuse victim Mike Rubin and his mother Vera soon sow doubts in him. He manages to elicit a confession from Dominik, and their friendship is put to a severe test. Torn between his loyalty and the serious allegations, Jakob finally chooses the path to the public prosecutor's office.

criticism

The film service judges that the "visually and dramatically very ambitious drama focuses on the dichotomy between friendship, loyalty and moral integrity, but does not leave out the victims and their relatives". The film is convincing “with its differentiated view of the church's handling of the abuse scandal” and is “excellently played and researched”.

The epd film believes that misconduct is "not a film that denounces it, not a pamphlet". He “rather cleverly dissect a self-contained system with a claim to absoluteness” in which “Jacob is something like a traitor”.
