Yunus Cumartpay (born May 15, 1979 in Norderney ) is a German actor .

Career

Yunus Cumartpay was born on Norderney in 1979 to Turkish parents. After completing his training as an electrician , he moved to Cologne in 2004 to begin training as an actor at the Film Acting School Cologne . Cumartpay finished this in 2006 with the qualification “stage maturity”. In 2007 he played the leading role in Bijan Benjamin's film cell , in which a terrorist attack in Germany is discussed. Cumartpay also wrote the script together with Benjamin. Cell was represented at the Festival des Films du Monde Montréal 2007 and the 41st Hof International Film Festival . Cumartpay has also worked on a number of short films , directed by Bijan Benjamin .

From 2008 Cumartpay appeared in various comedy formats. He was part of the cast of SketchNews alongside Axel Stein and appeared in Das Comedy-Magazin . He also appeared in the talent show Bully is looking for strong men , initiated by Michael Herbig . Cumartpay also appeared in films as a supporting actor with Murat B. - Verloren in Deutschland , which was again directed by Bijan Benjamin, and Matti Geschonneck's death in Istanbul . Cumartpay has also been a lecturer at drama schools since 2009. Since 2015, he has also played the brother of police officer Süher Özlügül in the ZDF crime film series Friesland in a continuous supporting role

Cumartpay played his best-known role from 2010 in the satirical program heute-show . In it he appeared as the migration expert Mesut Güngen . During the period in which Cumartpay was part of the ensemble, the heute-show was awarded the Grimme Prize and the German Television Prize as well as the German Comedy Prize twice. In late 2011, he made his last appearance on the show. Cumartpay has played a recurring role in the ZDF series Heldt since 2012, alongside Kai Schumann and Janine Kunze .

Since 2019 he has been a permanent member of the well-known improvisation group Springmaus
