Heidi Cheryl Shepard (born February 5, 1966 in New York City , New York ) is an American actress . She gained fame through her role in the German television series Hinter Gittern - Der Frauenknast from 1997 to 2000. From 2003 to 2015, she was seen in the hospital series In allerfreund.

Life

Cheryl Shepard moved to Switzerland with her family at the age of four . She has a twin sister and a younger sister. Shepard grew up in Basel , Bern and Zurich . In 1982 she went to the Acting Academy in Zurich and graduated in 1986. She gained stage experience at the Staatstheater Stuttgart and from 1988 to 1990 at the Nationaltheater Mannheim .

In 1990 she moved to Lake Constance , where she then turned more towards film and television. In 2007 she found a new home in Leipzig .

In 1997 she got her first major lead role in a television series. Until March 2000 she was in 80 episodes of Hinter Gittern - Der Frauenknast as Susanne Teubner , who killed her husband in affect. From 2003 to 2015 she played in the television series In aller Freundschaft the role of the plastic surgeon and later urologist Dr. Elena Eichhorn . After no suitable roles were offered and she had to file for personal bankruptcy, she opened a café called “Cheryl's Café” in Leipzig on July 31, 2015 . In April 2016, it was announced that Shepard had given up the cafe. From May 2016 to April 2017, she played one of the leading roles in the 13th season of the telenovela Rote Rosen as Sydney Flickenschild . In October and November 2017 she made a guest appearance on Rote Rosen .

She advocates different cultures and the understanding between them and is an active member of the association "Hand in Hand International eV - Association for Encounter and Cooperation".

Cheryl Shepard has been married to actor Nikolaus Okonkwo since 2006 and has a son and two adopted children with him. Two grown daughters come from their first marriage.
