Children's radio (also: children's radio ) is the name of a radio station or broadcast that is specially designed for young listeners. It is used to entertain and educate children with stories, fairy tales , radio plays and songs , the bedtime song uncle and the sandman .

Electronic devices are also referred to as children's radios, which should also be suitable for preschoolers due to their robustness and ease of use. The best-known representative is probably the no longer produced device My First Sony .

history

As early as the 1950s, the West German radio stations set up the school radio as well as the children's radio. They were supported by well-known actors and speakers, such as the NWDR by the popular actor Otto Lüthje .

The only national children's radio program is Deutschlandfunk Kultur with the program Kakadu , which is broadcast several times a week. Furthermore, WDR 5 broadcasts a daily children's program under the name Kiraka (until September 2012: Lilipuz) and has developed an internet radio for children with KIRAKA , which has also been available via DAB, satellite and cable since May 2009. The first German private radio broadcaster for children is Radio Teddy , which is broadcast in Berlin and Brandenburg.

In Austria there is a special radio station for children called "Mein Kinderradio" in Vienna. Since July 28, 2014, broadcasts have been on FM frequency 103.2 and on the Internet. The younger adolescents as a target group are also primarily addressed by Ö3 , after FM4, which is focused on new youth culture, has developed further with its regular audience.
